Sustainable development in RUSAL

A business is only truly successful in today’s world if it operates in harmony with society. Whilst RUSAL is aware of the environmental impact of production, it also addresses the needs and expectations of the local population, supports all human rights and freedoms guaranteed by international and Russian laws. This approach has been used as a framework for RUSAL’s sustainable development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy. Compliance with this approach is not only important for the Company’s reputation; it also constitutes a competitive advantage for RUSAL as one of the first Russian companies to use CSR guidelines as the foundations for its strategy and all ongoing projects.

RUSAL is always putting projects in place to protect the environment and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, support the development of cities where it operates, and improve the quality of life for the local population. The Company have established equal and decent working conditions for all employees, regardless of their gender, ethnicity, religion, and political views. All employees are guaranteed social and economic rights such as paid leave, maternity leave, education, medical care, health and labour protection, ethical treatment, etc. pursuant to the Russian Labour Code.

While working in an open and transparent way, the Company reports regularly on its activities and annually publishes its non-financial statements in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, the UN Global Compact principles, the Sustainable Development Goals, and the Hong Kong Stock Exchange Listing Rules for issuers reporting on the environmental and social governance (ESG).
