Four more RUSAL production sites receive ASI certification
Moscow, 19 January 2022 — RUSAL (SEHK: 486; Moscow Exchange: RUAL), a leading global aluminium producer, is pleased to announce that four additional production sites have achieved Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) certification. ASI certification aims at fostering better sustainability practices across the whole supply chain.
The Kandalaksha aluminium smelter, two aluminium foil plants Sayanal and Armenal (Armenia) and Europe’s largest alumina refinery Aughinish (Ireland), have been successfully certified against the ASI Performance Standard and ASI Chain of Custody Standard, bringing the total number of ASI RUSAL certificates to 13. Among those previously certified are the largest aluminium smelters of the Company - Krasnoyarsk, Bratsk, Sayanogorsk, Irkutsk and Boguchansk. The independent third-party audit of RUSAL was carried out by an independent company, DNV GL.
The ASI Performance Standard is the only recognized sustainability standard for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Chain of Custody Standard is designed to help companies in the aluminium industry to provide their customers and stakeholders with an independent guarantee of responsible production and supply.
“The consistent certification of the Company's assets according to ASI standards since 2019 is a confirmation of RUSAL's commitment to the best ESG practices in the aluminium industry. RUSAL plans to further expand in the area of certification aligning with ASI standards, satisfying the growing demand for products manufactured in accordance with the principles of sustainable development,” said Irina Bakhtina, Chief Sustainability Officer of RUSAL.
RUSAL joined the international Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) in 2015. The ASI Performance Standard requirements cover 11 groups of criteria ranging from business ethics and governance, environmental performance, human rights and social practices.
