Master alloys

Developing and producing master alloys is a relatively new area of RUSAL's innovation activities, since its launch in 2017. The basis for this was the creation by the Company's process engineers of a new high-efficiency method for producing the aluminium-scandium master alloy. The unique hybrid technology of AlSc2 production combined two methods – metallothermy and the reduction process. The resulting patented product successfully passed industrial tests, certification and customer qualification, and was then launched into serial production.

RUSAL engineers have also developed and implemented a technology for producing strontium master alloys in a protective atmosphere, and AlSr10 industrial batches were qualified by customers. The Company's developments include master alloys with magnesium, nickel, titanium and a number of other elements.
