RUSAL will invest 500 mln rubles in the improvement of the public spaces in seven Russian regions

Moscow, February 13, 2020 – RUSAL (Hong Kong Stock Exchange code 486, Moscow Exchange code RUAL), one of the world’s major producers of aluminium, will invest 500 mln rubles to support the eleven winning projects from the RUSAL Territory.

When combined with the co-financing the total cost of all projects in eleven municipalities in seven Russian regions will amount to over 660 mln rubles. The projects are aimed at the creation of modern and comfortable urban territories, the development of infrastructure to organize city events and the construction of play and sports grounds for the enjoyment of locals of all ages.

With RUSAL’s support, three parks will undergo improvement and repair works: Central city park in Tayshet, Victory park in Achinsk and a new Dream park in Tayozhniy in Krasnoyarsk krai. As a result they will have several zones such as playgrounds, sport grounds, areas for mass gatherings and leisure activities. Furthermore, a new children’s park will open in Shelekhov.

The centre of the city of Sayanogorsk will be repaired and upgraded. Also, projects to create pedestrian and parking zones, places for active leisure activities and cultural events will be carried out in Kandalaksha, Bratsk, Kamensk-Uralsk and Cheremukhovo in the Severouralsk urban district. The Tractor stadium will be reconstructed in Volgograd, while in Krasnoturyinsk plans to upgrade the region include improvements to the embankment, boat station and beach zone along the Turya river.

The winner selection process of the RUSAL Territory competition was broken down into several steps. Everyone was able to get familiar with the 26 projects and vote for the best via online voting. This year 19.4 thousand people participated in the voting process. Representatives of the Company and independent experts in the spheres of territorial development and creation of comfortable urban landscape evaluated the projects. When making the final shortlist both the results of the online voting and scores from the expert group were taken into consideration.

“The grant competition this year takes place as the social programme RUSAL Territory marks its tenth anniversary so it is a truly special event this year. This is reflected in both the total amount of money in the grant and the significance of the project applications. We are looking forward to the beginning of the work including the detailed drafting of the projects by the architects and other important work necessary for the projects to take shape. The implementation of the projects is scheduled for 2021-2022. It was crucial that these projects were selected by the local people who live here and will make the most of it, which means that our support will meet the most urgent demands of the city and will bring to life these amazing plans”, – said RUSAL’s CEO, Evgenii Nikitin.
