REACH

United Company RUSAL has completed pre-registration under REACH regulations for substances imported into the EU. UC RUSAL remains committed to completing the registration process for the substances pre-registered and will meet the deadlines set forth by REACH – between 2010 and 2018 depending on the tonnage registered.

United Company Rusal Aluminium Limited, established in Nicosia, Cyprus, has been appointed by UC RUSAL to act as ‘Only Representative’ and to pre-register on behalf of all non-EU established entities of the Group. The European entities Kubal, Eurallumina and Aughinish have pre-registered individually.

Pre-registration guarantees that all substances manufactured by UC RUSAL within or outside the EU will still be available in future. All customers will be considered as downstream users and therefore relieved of registration obligations.

What is REACH?

REACH is the Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals. It entered into force on 1st June 2007 to streamline and improve the former legislative framework on chemicals of the European Union (EU).

REACH places greater responsibility on industry to manage the risks that chemicals may pose to the health and the environment. All manufacturers and importers of chemicals must identify and manage risks linked to the substances they manufacture and market. For substances produced or imported in quantities of 1 tonne or more per year per company, manufacturers and importers need to demonstrate that they have appropriately done so by means of a registration dossier, which shall be submitted to the Agency.

Additional information on REACH can be found at: The European Chemical Agency
