WHAT WE DO / OUR OPERATIONS / ALUMINIUM DIVISION / KUBAL (SWEDEN)

KUBAL (SWEDEN)

Kubikenborg Aluminium (Kubal) is one of the largest industrial facilities in Central Sweden and the only primary aluminium producer in the country.

In 1942, an aluminium smelter was built in Sundsvall. Aluminium production capacities were expanded intensively and in the 1960s a new aluminium production facility was constructed.

In the middle of the 1980s, the smelter was modernised using the latest technologies of that time, increasing production capacity from 2,000 to 100,000 tonnes per annum, which satisfies half of all aluminium demand in Sweden. Current production capacity of Kubal is 128,000 tonnes of saleable aluminium per annum.

Approximately 50% of aluminium produced at Kubal is supplied to customers in Sweden, and the remaining 50% goes to European customers. The workforce of the smelter is about 340 people.
