«Reviving masterpieces»

The Reviving Masterpieces programme is aimed at the preservation of national heritage and cultural education, promoting visual arts. As a part of this programme, RUSAL helps the Vereshchagin Arts Museum in Nikolaev (Ukraine) to restore the paintings that are kept in museum storerooms. The company also helps to increase the number of museums visitors through attracting attention to its projects and events.

The project is being implemented by RUSAL in partnership with Kyiv Restoration Institute of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and Nikolaev local authorities.

11 paintings by famous Russian artists Chumakov, Aivazovsky, Vereshchagin, Saryan, Bogolubov and Sudkovsky have been already restored. RUSAL helped launching an internet site www.100shedevrov.mk.ru, which includes the painting reproductions. The company initiated the media coverage of the museum’s activities. These measures helped to increase the number of museum visitors by more than 20%.

2011 will see the restoration of other museum paintings, including Karl Bryullov’s «Bathers» and Ilya Repin’s «Banker». Other plans include publishing the «100 Masterpieces» photo album and organising the exhibition of Vasily Vereshchagin.
