Dr Jim O'Neill's Viewpoints

The Lecture

UC RUSAL has been dedicated in bringing the best to Hong Kong. The UC RUSAL President's Forum, organised in collaboration with HKUST's Institute for Advanced Study, is intended to bring some of the world's most renowned speakers to Hong Kong including leading international politicians, businessmen, scholars and scientists. This year, Dr O'Neill will focus on the changing dynamics of the world economy and the rapid rise in the importance of the BRIC nations. He will suggest that, contrary to much pessimism, their increased economic involvement will lead to great global prosperity for all, not just themselves.

While talking about the rise of the "Growth Markets", including the four BRICs and four of the so-called Next 11, Dr O'Neill will share his views on how they will help shape the course of global economic development this decade. Their combined GDP will increase by about double that of the US and Europe together, and therefore this growth is the key issue for the world economy, not the US credit rating nor the challenges of the EMU.
