RUSAL creates partnerships with colleges and universities, which prepare specialists in metals
and mining. The company endeavors to enhance the quality of education in Russia through
supporting the country’s best universities and providing scholarships and awards to outstanding
students.
RUSAL provides annual scholarships to Russian and foreign students, majoring in subjects,
related to the company’s operations. RUSAL’s scholarship programmes are available to gifted
and industrious students, contributing to the development of science and technologies.
In 2011, RUSAL launched an education programme ‘RUSAL Scholarship-2011’ that will
provide the brightest Guinean students aged between 18 and 25 with the opportunity to be
educated in Russia’s best universities. All accommodation, transportation costs and tuition
fees will be covered by RUSAL. Guinean students will be able to study for degrees in mining,
railroad operations, economics, building and construction, agriculture, water supply, medicine
and human resources. After graduation, there is the opportunity for many of the students to work
for RUSAL in their subsidiaries in Guinea.
In 2011 RUSAL together with the major Russian and foreign universities plans to launch an
international postgraduate study programme for the company’s employees and the best graduates
of Russia’s technical colleges and universities. The programme is aimed at preparing highly
skilled specialists in modern technologies.
The educational programme will include the courses on:
- Production management
- Engineering
- Energy
- Equipment operation
- Technological and environmental management
The project is being currently implemented at the Siberian Federal University and the French
Groupe des Ecoles des Mines (GEM). RUSAL plans to launch similar educational programmes
at the German DAAD and Irkutsk State Technical University.
RUSAL organises an annual spring conference for the students who have successfully completed
internship at the company’s facilities. The young people present their ideas on improving
production performance and enhancing labour and environmental safety at RUSAL’s facilities.
The students’ presentations are evaluated under the following criteria:
- Subject relevance
- Originality of the idea
- Economic effect
- Feasibility and applicability
The reports are examined by an expert commission. The commission members help the
authors to improve the projects to ensure their viability and boost economic effect from their
deployment.
