Europe accounts for more than 15% of global aluminium consumption.
Europe’s major aluminium market is Germany, which is home to the world’s largest automakers. Germany accounts for about 25% of total aluminium consumption in Europe, hence the further growth of this market will reflect strongly in the development of the global aluminium industry.
According to forecasts demand for aluminium in Western Europe will increase by 3.6% in 2014 to reach 8.4 million tonnes due to raising economic activity in Germany.
Germany’s automotive industry exports the main part of its production and has a high growth potential, underpinned by the thriving emerging economies, which increases the consumption of automotive vehicles.
On average, the EU transport contains 8.6% of aluminium, the highest rate globally.
